Proficient project management is a key part of every successful kitchen installation, creating a seamless path between the restaurant’s signed off blueprint and the keenly anticipated first day of opening.
It’s a role which requires great attention to detail as well as good practical and technical skills as James, who has headed Nelson’s Project Management Department for many years will attest.
“There are countless things that could, potentially, be missed or go wrong on any new kitchen installation so it’s vital to identify and address them without delay to prevent functionality being compromised or the completion date being delayed.”
The Project Manager is the main point of contact for the duration of the work so will organise meetings with the client’s tradespeople responsible for the build and will agree a schedule to ensure everything will be ready to receive the equipment for the kitchen installation.
“This requires careful coordination of the various trades on site and the PM will liaise between them on both a technical and practical level to ensure that all services and systems are accurately prepared.”
The Project Manager will stay closely in touch with all members of the workforce and will visit the site whenever needed, will attend site meetings, resolve any issues, organise bespoke manufacturing and coordinate the logistics and schedule of the installation – always with a steadfast focus on getting the premises ready for the agreed date.
“Ensuring that the site is fully prepared to accept the equipment is key to a smooth and successful installation,” explains James, “and this is why we place such emphasis on all the visits, meetings, planning schedules and communications – they all lead to that crucial day when we deliver the goods to a perfect site.“
“Finally, when the installation is complete, we carry out a thorough inspection, checking everything is as it should be and that all necessary certifications are in place. At this point, the kitchen is ready to be commissioned and our client can be assured that their design has been effectively fulfilled.”
